I Used to Hate the Heat. Here’s What Changed

If you had asked me a few years ago to go for a walk outside on a 95-degree summer day, my answer would have been a quick "Absolutely not."
I dreaded the heat.
Within minutes, my face would turn bright red. I'd start sweating excessively, feel uncomfortable, slightly anxious, and almost trapped in the heat. Instead of enjoying being outside, I'd spend the entire time thinking about getting back into the air conditioning.
I assumed that was just how my body was.
Maybe it was because I was getting older.
Maybe it was hormones.
Maybe I just "didn't tolerate heat."
I accepted it as normal.
Then Something Changed.
As I began addressing my own health from a root-cause perspective, something unexpected happened.
I wasn't trying to improve my heat tolerance.
I was working on reducing chronic inflammation, healing my gut, supporting my hormones, correcting nutrient deficiencies, managing stress, and improving my overall metabolic health.
Little by little, I started noticing changes.
I had more energy.
I slept better.
I looked forward to exercising again.
And then one day I realized...
I wasn't miserable in the heat anymore.
In fact, I actually enjoyed it.
I Crave Warmth Now
This Fourth of July, during a major heat wave, I found myself looking forward to getting outside for a walk.
Not because I enjoy being uncomfortable. But because my body feels different. I enjoy sweating. I don't become overheated nearly as quickly. My face doesn't turn bright red like it used to. Don’t get me wrong, I still seek the shade whenever possible and I hydrate a ton to stay cool. Instead of feeling drained, I often feel energized after spending time outside.
That has been one of the most surprising changes in my own health journey.
What Could Have Changed?
Everyone is different, and I can't say exactly why my experience changed.
But I do know this: When our bodies are dealing with chronic inflammation, hormone imbalances, poor gut health, chronic stress, blood sugar swings, and nutrient deficiencies, they often struggle to regulate themselves efficiently.
As those underlying issues improve, many people notice benefits they never expected.
Sometimes it's better digestion.
Sometimes it's improved sleep.
Sometimes it's fewer headaches or less joint pain.
And sometimes it's something as simple - but life-changing - as feeling comfortable outside on a hot summer day.
Your Symptoms Matter
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is:
"I'm just getting older."
While aging certainly brings changes, feeling exhausted every day, struggling through the heat, having no motivation to exercise, experiencing bloating, brain fog, or constantly feeling inflamed shouldn't automatically be dismissed as "normal."
Our bodies are incredibly resilient when we give them the support they need.
That's Why I Created the Midlife Hormone & Gut Reset
I created my Midlife Hormone & Gut Reset because I know what it's like to feel like you're losing yourself.
I also know how incredible it feels when your body begins working with you instead of against you.
Over six weeks, we focus on reducing inflammation, supporting gut health, balancing hormones, improving nutrition, and building healthy habits that help you feel better from the inside out.
Because feeling better isn't just about losing weight. It's about having the energy to enjoy your life again.
Final Thoughts
If someone had told me a few years ago that I'd willingly walk outside during a heat wave - and actually enjoy it - I probably wouldn't have believed them.
But here I am.
Sometimes the smallest changes become the biggest reminders of how far we've come. And for me, enjoying the warmth instead of hiding from it is one of those reminders.
